Health Alert
By Vivian V. Vetrano, D.C., hM.D., M.D., Ph D.
<vvvetrano@rionet.cc>

Copper reacts with acids to form highly toxic products! I am in the midst of researching dental metals and discovered that copper is very reactive with acids. Since Hygienists eat acids with every meal, both in fruits and in vegetables, they are perhaps more susceptible to poisoning from copper which is combined with other metals in the manufacture of caps, gold crowns, bridges, etc. If you are having your teeth capped, request that they not use metal at all. It is best to have no metals in your mouth.

Years ago, when I was still running Dr. Shelton's Health SchooI, a woman had had all her teeth capped. She was fasting because of the great amount of inflammation of her gums. However, the problem was the metal in her mouth, and I told her she needed to take out the caps. "What?" she cried, "I paid too much for these to have them taken out." She refused to do it. Her fast was completed but the gums were still sick. A couple of years later, her family wrote me that she developed cancer of the mouth and passed away.

During those same years, a young, woman came to the Health School with teeth that had already been ground down to stubs because she had had caps on them. She was a nice looking woman, but I pitied her because her teeth looked like broken off fence posts spread out. She said that when she gets the caps put back on, her body always rejects them like a Hygienist rejects junk food. Her only solution was to have them pulled and to wear a denture.

As we are careful about what we swallow; so must we be careful to keep the metals out of our mouth too.

Scientific Research, Studies and Statistics Validating
The Raw Plant Based Diet as the Most Healthful Diet for Humans

Copyright Rozalind Gruben July 2003. All rights reserved.

F. M. Pottenger conducted a study of the effects cooked and processed foods had on the dental structure of animals. The study lasted for 10 years and revealed far more alarming results than Pottenger had expected. Pottenger kept 900 cats in strictly controlled conditions whereby he had total control over their diets. All cats were fed on meat and milk but one group received them in their raw state while the other group was consistently fed them cooked. The cats fed on raw food produced generations of healthy kittens throughout the 10-year study. The cats fed on the cooked version developed the same diseases common to humans such as cancer, osteoporosis, heart disease, glandular malfunctioning, kidney disease, sexual impotency, paralysis, pneumonia, arthritis, difficult labors and such severe irritability that they became aggressive and difficult to handle. The first litter of kittens to be born to the first cooked food group suffered abnormalities and demonstrated very poor levels of overall health. The second generation was born diseased or dead. By the third generation the females were sterile. The excrement from the cats fed on raw food was used as fertilizer and resulted in healthy and strong plant growth. The plants fertilized with the excrement from the cats on cooked food produced week and stunted plants. The results were first published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Oral Surgery. Later Pottenger repeated the experiment with while mice and found the results to be identical.

Dr. Weston Price was an American dentist who devoted 20 years of his life traveling round the world and studying "primitive" societies. He wrote up his findings in his famous book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration. In his book he explained that the average diet amongst these people consisted of simple, fresh and largely uncooked foods. Typically, these foods were gathered and eaten immediately. He examined the teeth and bone development, the incidence of caries and the overall health status of the people he studied and compared them to those in the “civilized” world. Dr Price concluded that “...a diet based on cooked and processed foods creates appalling problems with human health.”

Dr. Paul Kuchakoff was from the Institute of Clinical Chemistry in Lausanne, Switzerland. In 1930 he conducted a study that revealed how leucocytosis (a proliferation of white blood cells) occurs when cooked foods are consumed. This, he concluded, demonstrates that the body considers cooked food to be a toxic threat and fights it as such.

Dr. Howard Loomis repeatedly experienced Dr Kouchakoff’s findings while working with hundreds of patients. He concluded that over simulating the immune functioning three to four times per day by the ingestion of cooked foods is definitely a stress on the system.

O. Steiner was also a Swiss researcher. He fed guinea pigs their usual diet but subjected it to the cooking process first. The animals soon demonstrated anemia, scurvy, goiter, dental caries, glandular degeneration and (once pasteurized milk was added) arthritis.

Dr. Szekely went on to treat 123,600 people (17% of whom were diagnosed as being ‘incurable’) by applying the principles of a raw plant based diet. 90% were recorded as having regained their health.

Professor Karl Eimer, director of the Medical Clinic at the University of Vienna studied the effect of a 100% raw diet on athletes. He placed his subjects on a two week program of intense physical training while they continued to consume their usual cooked diet. Their athletic performance was monitored and evaluated. They were then put on a 100% raw diet and continued their training. Without exception the athletes demonstrated improvements in reflex speed, flexibility and stamina. Eimer, and his colleague Professor Hans Eppinger, concluded that raw foods increase cellular respiration and efficiency. Their findings were reported in the July, 1993 edition of Zeitschrift fur Ernahrung entitled Klinik Schwenkenhacher.

Dr. Gearson in 1958, after many years of study and research into the effects of a raw food diet on cancer, he wrote in “A Cancer Therapy – A Result of 50 Cases”: “The studies showing that nutrients are destroyed by subjection to heat are too numerous to mention.”

Viktorus Kulvinskas, a well known researcher in to the benefits of a raw diet states; 80% of a foods nutrient value is destroyed by cooking.’

Other studies show some variation but most agree that subjecting foods to the heat of cooking results in:
* Up to 96% loss of thiamine (B1)
* Up to 97% loss of folic acid
* Up to 72% loss of biotin
* 70% - 80% loss of vitamin C

The Max Plank Institute of Nutritional Research in Germany states that only 50% of any protein in a food is available to the body once it has been cooked.

Dr. William Neusome from Canada’s Department of Health and Welfare Food and Research Division found in his experiments with pesticides that cooking transforms certain fungicides into cancer causing compounds.

Dr. Gabriel Cousens reports that browned and burned food becomes carcinogenic. He observes that this comes primarily from heated protein matter. Experiments were done feeding animals isolated chemicals from burnt/browned food. The animals all developed cancer.

Dr. Kollath conducted experiments while searching for a diet that was conducive to healing. He discovered that raw foods alone, and distinctly not vitamin or mineral supplementation, restored sick animals back to health from their “half-health” condition (meso-health).

Researchers from the Linus Pauling Institute reported that a raw diet, when fed to mice, had the same anticancer properties as high doses of vitamin C.

Additional Indication that a Diet of Raw Plants is the Superior for Human Health

It is recorded that Pythagorus (500 BC) used a diet of raw plants to heal people with digestive disorders. One of the first clinics to advocate a diet of raw plants was the clinic of Max Bircher Benner in 1897. Bircher Benner experimented with his own health problems first. He suffered from jaundice and an “inability to eat.” Having successfully achieved a recovery he began to recommend the same diet to patients of his that had digestive disorders. The outcome was the same: recovery.

In the early 1920’s a doctor by the name of Max Gerson, M.D. healed his own migraines and “incurable” lupus by consuming a diet of raw plants In 1928 he cured Albert Schweitzer of diabetes and his wife of tuberculosis via the same raw plant approach.

This information is but an iceberg tip of a massive and ever-expanding array of evidence that a diet of raw plants is the optimum diet for human health.

The governors of Healthful Living International are either doctors or they have attained similarly high academic status within the health field. Their joint mission is to bring authentic and scientific information to those in search of superior health, and to bring clarity to the mist of falsehoods veiling so much of today’s vegetarian and vegan world.

Why Buy Organic?
by Debbie Ortman

From Urban Organics, Vancouver, BC Canada
<www.urbanorganics.com>

When you purchase organic food, you are using the power of your dollar to sustain life-affirming farm practices, help save our environment, and do something good for yourself in terms of both better health and better-tasting food.

1. PROTECT GENERATIONS
"We have not inherited the earth from our fathers, we are borrowing it from our Children" - Lester Brown

The average child receives four times more exposure than an adult to at least eight widely used cancer-causing pesticides in food. Food choices you make now will impact your child’s future health.

2. PREVENT SOIL EROSION
The Soil Conservation Service estimates more than 3 billion tons of topsoil are eroded from North American croplands each year. That means soil erodes seven times faster than it’s built up naturally.

Soil is the foundation of the food chain in organic farming. However, in conventional farming, the soil is used more as a medium for holding plants in a vertical position so they can be chemically fertilized. As a result North American farms are suffering from the worst soil erosion in history.

3. PROTECT WATER QUALITY
Water makes up two-thirds of our body mass and covers three-fourths of the planet. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates pesticides, some cancer causing, contaminate the ground water in 38 States, polluting the primary source of drinking water for more than half the country’s population.

4. SAVE ENERGY
Farms have changed drastically in the last three generations, from family-based small businesses dependent on human energy to large-scale factory farms. Modern farming uses more petroleum than any other single industry, consuming 12% of the country’s total energy supply. More energy is now used to produce synthetic fertilizers than to till, cultivate and harvest all the crops in the North America.

Organic farming is still based on labor-intensive practices such as hand weeding and green manure and crop covers instead of synthetic fertilizers to support soil.

5. KEEP CHEMICALS OFF YOUR PLATE
Many pesticides approved for use by the EPA were registered long before extensive research linking these chemicals to cancer and other diseases had been established. Now the EPA considers 60% of all herbicides, 90%of all fungicides and 30% of all insecticides carcinogenic. A 1987 National Academy of Sciences report estimated that might cause an extra 4-million cancer cases among North Americans. The bottom line is that pesticides are poisons designed to kill living organisms and can also harm humans. In addition to cancer, pesticides are implicated in birth defects nerve damage and genetic mutations.

6. PROTECT FARM WORKERS
A National Cancer Institute study found that farmers exposed to herbicides had six times more risk than non-farmers of contracting cancer. In California, reported pesticide poisonings among farm workers has risen an average of 14% a year since 1973 and doubled between 1975 and 1985. Field workers suffer the highest rates of occupational-illness in the state. Farm worker health is also a serious problem in developing nations where pesticide use is often poorly regulated. An estimated 1 million people are poisoned annually by pesticides.

7. HELP SMALL FARMERS
Although more and more large-scale farms are making the conversion to organic practices, most organic farms are small, independently owned family farms of fewer than 100 acres. It’s estimated that North America has lost more than 650,000 family farms in the past decade. And with the Department of Agriculture predicting that half of the country’s farm production will come from 1% of farms by the year 2000, organic farming could be one of the few survival tactics left for family farms.

8. SUPPORT A TRUE ECONOMY
Although organic foods might seem more expensive than conventional foods, conventional food prices don’t reflect hidden costs borne by taxpayers, including nearly $74 billion in federal subsidies in 1988. Other hidden costs include pesticide regulation and testing, hazardous waste disposal and cleanup.

9. PROMOTE BIODIVERSITY
Mono cropping is the practice of planting large plots of land with the same crop year after year. While this approach tripled farm production between 1950 and 1970, the lack of natural diversity of plant life has left the soil lacking in natural minerals and nutrients. To replace the nutrients, chemical fertilizers are used, often in increasing amounts. Single crops are also much more susceptible to pests making farmers more reliant on pesticides. Between 1947 and 1974, crop losses due to insects have doubled partly because some insects have become genetically resistant to some pesticides.

10. BETTER TASTE
There’s a good reason why many chefs use organic foods in their recipes––they taste better. Organic farming starts with the nourishment of the soil, which eventually leads to the nourishment of the plant and ultimately our palates. We find that foods grown in a nutrient rich soil and picked fresh have a richer flavor than foods grown in a chemical based soil and shipped to your local market. Try it and I’m sure you’ll agree!

< < < PROFESSOR ROZ’S HEALTH TIPS > > >

1. Always carry with you a pair of foam earplugs to protect yourself, when necessary, from noise pollution.
2. Ensure all the tops of any domestic chemical products are kept tightly closed to minimize gaseous leakage into your home environment.
3. Only resort to artificial light when natural light is truly insufficient to meet your visual needs.
4. Have a meeting with yourself at the end of each day for a debriefing. Consider what you have learnt, what was successful and what you could do differently next time. Let go of thoughts that you do not wish to sleep with and you will sleep much better as a result.

< < < PROFESSOR ROZ’S WORDS OF INSPIRATION > > >

“When you observe the destructive habits of others take this as a reminder of
how important it is for you to teach by example.”

“Each morning awaken with the knowledge that you have another chance to apply
what you know.”

“Stopping to breathe and reenter oneself between daily tasks prevents any
negative energy being carried forward into the next task.”
